"I had always had an attraction to the priesthood since my childhood days. Like many others, I experienced doubt: perhaps I’m not holy enough, intelligent enough, selfless enough. In part, my choice to enter military service was my effort to ignore the life of priesthood that God perhaps desired for me."

"A missionary Priest who lives side by side with his people, will have the 'smell of the sheep' as Pope Francis would put it. He would know the joys of the people, the sorrows of the people and that's one of the things that attracts me to the missionary priesthood." 

"Getting to know the biblical people who struggled to understand what it means to hear the voice of God in times of trial or in times of blessings, in ordinary and in extraordinary times ... when you hear that voice, it is penetrating, it touches your heart and it tells you 'trust me, I am with you, I accompany you, I am ahead of you'. That's who we are. We are people who trust, we are people who go." 

"We experience God in our own way and out experience with God is always very personal. But I think there is a communal experience with God as well, it's why we are the 'community of the faithful'. And certainly being a missionary Priest and being with the Bolivian people, I experience God in a way that I have never felt before." 

The Holy Spirit guides people to lead fruitful lives and to help others do the same, says Daniel Siwoo Kim. Ordained as a Maryknoll priest in May 2017, says he now sees how the Holy Spirit was leading him to Maryknoll, even before he realized it.

"There's not many ways in the world today to really stand out ... to be different from the the norm. For myself, doing something different, being out in the world is something fulfilling, something rewarding; that's what the priesthood life brought to me. And the missionary life especially, is a step beyond that." 

"What is really interesting about missionary priesthood is that you get to experience God from a different perspective, from a different context. That is not something you can do if you try to localize yourself in one single diocese. That excitement that you are going to meet another version of God, another context, excites me and makes me want to be part of Maryknoll."
